D2 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!This year's D2 Championships have gone back to Edwardsville, IL. California is sending a number of distance runners to compete with the nation's best for All-American honors (Top 8). Based on the entry list, the following local harriers will be competing this weekend (rankings in parentheses):

ANOTHER WET WEEKEND!!!It didn't seem to matter if the rain came down or the sun poked through the clouds, track races were going to be run. And through it all, fast times were still recorded. Stanford hosted two meets this weekend and both resulted in great marks. The Cardinal Invite is always a great meet for athletes to get a final shot at a qualifying mark. The rain cleared and the lights were on as the distance runners and spectators prepared for a good time. Some highlights of the meet included Jason Lunn of the Nike Farm Team winning the Men's 1500 with a time of 3:40.42. Jorge Torres's 13:24.56 edged out Meb Keflizighi's 13:25.90 for the win in the Men's 5K. A battle throughout the race with constant lead changes ended in the final 50 meters as Torres threw in one final surge to hold off Keflizighi to the line.

RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY!!!Any harrier in the Bay Area this weekend probably thought they were at an Oregon Invitational. I mean, c'mon... It's April. Yeah, I know... "April showers brings May flowers," but this was insane.
UC Berkeley had to cancel their Brutus Hamilton Memorial Invite due to "inclement weather." What a shame for those schools who had already opted that meet over the Cal/Nev Championships in sunny San Diego. The Junior College runners showed that they weren't going to let a little rain stop them. The Bruce Jenner Classic still went on. Granted, the meet ended 2 hours early because officials threw the time schedule out the window. The meet continued on a running time schedule after the second event. Officials got smart and combined as many races and heats as possible (Womens/Mens 3k/5k, M/W 4x400, etc.). By 1:30, an inch or two of water surfaced the track and only 4 schools were left in the stands. Oh, what a day! The night was no better. On Sunday morning, many runners struggled to get out of their beds, for they knew that they had to get up and run 6.2 miles in Cupertino for the Hewlett-Packard 10K. As the day went on, the clouds parted and blue skies were once again revealed. Hopefully next week will be a different story.

STANFORD INVITE PLAYS HOST TO NUMEROUS PR'S!!!Anyone who's anyone has the Stanford Invite on their Track schedule. The top athletes come from all over the country in order to compete with some of the best talent around. Many individuals walked away from the track this weekend with PR's and provisional marks. Once again, the Friday night distance carnival was worth the hours of shivering and day after sore throats from screaming. See the right toolbar for complete Results ----->
